SOUNDTRACKS

The means of writing Howls into the Void could not have been achieved without an amazing music playlist. I was inspired by many different songs, each serving its own sole purpose to benefit the creation of this book.

 

There is a method to my madness, which includes spending hours scouring the internet for the most dramatic and thought-provoking songs I could find. Afterward, I meticulously organized the songs with the consideration of mood, genre, title, and lyrics. I would then dedicate them to each individual chapter. You may notice that each song title is the exact same as each chapter title. 

 

I consider the music an ode to my book. For it captured the essence of my story and my path to discover said essence was a very emotional process for me. The fact that I find music a crucial part of being a writer is precisely why I am very passionate about this soundtrack in particular.

 

As you may be wondering why I refer to it as a soundtrack, it is simply because the writing was a very cinematic experience in my head. I can perfectly picture each scene mentally in regards to the dialogue and actions my characters partake - as one would while watching a movie. My ultimate goal was to recreate this ambiance with a soundtrack my readers could enjoy. Therefore, they may experience this story as I did - from both a literary and cinematic viewpoint. However, everyone interprets music differently and I recognize that is indeed the beauty of it.

 

As for the genre of the soundtracks, they vary with each book in the series. Yet I wanted to keep a theme regardless. The genre found throughout the playlists are comprised entirely of rock music. I strived to incorporate many diverse subgenres, such as grunge, punk, indie, country, alternative and hard rock. My understanding is that every chapter has distinct elements that needed to be emphasized by equally distinct genres. This is not only to design a unique atmosphere to my book but also to symbolize the importance of diversity. This may seem hyperbolic but I assure you it is not. 

 

If you are anything like me, then this page will have a significant role to play in your reading experience. My aspiration for sharing this personal aspect of my writing process is to encourage other aspiring authors to discover what inspires them. Once you explore your own mind and interests, you unearth a world of possibilities. That is surely what implementing music into my writing has done for me.

 

Hopefully, this has also clarified to my readers the gravity that music has had on my book. For I am nearly certain there are readers like myself who love to understand an author's writing motive.
