Analysis
Nobody truly knows whom the real Khalid Khan is, despite him being the infamous Alpha of the Feral Pack. This has led to many speculations being formed about what lies beneath the surface. Although he is courteous, he always remains fairly aloof. With the tenacious tendency to have a taciturn approach to others, Khalid continues to be quite the enigmatic creature. Khalid is a man of many secrets and this only fuels the rumors about him. The entire Werewolvian society is curious about the skeletons in his closet.
Khalid is mysterious and intentionally so. His emotions are guarded and his actions are always calculated. With the conviction that nobody should be trusted, he is not only cautious but strategic. When the situation requires something devious, he is equipped to devise a clever scheme against those who threaten him. The ability to be quiet allows him to listen. Khalid is incredibly perceptive of others. Therefore, when he discovers the weaknesses of others, he can use it against them. Somehow, he is always one step ahead of the game. His battle strategies are genius, his combat skills are unparalleled, and his manipulation techniques are cunning. Khalid isn't someone you want to challenge.
Essentially, Khalid is rather introverted and well known for being discreet in regards to his private affairs. There are very few who know exactly what he becomes behind closed doors. Although he is unforthcoming, Khalid is quite capable of being adventurous, friendly and loving. Perhaps some might consider him old-fashioned, for he's rather chivalrous.
Beyond everything, Khalid values honor and tradition. In Syrian culture, the most important aspect of life is family. The family dynamic is patriarchal; the father or oldest male has the most authority in the household. This mentality trained Khalid to be the perfect candidate for Alpha. He has been taught from a young age to remain strong, dominant and powerful. Furthermore, his natural inclination for leadership has provided him with the innate wisdom required to reign as the Alpha.
Since Khalid has departed from his family many centuries ago, there is currently nothing more important to him than his Pack. After becoming a Werewolf, the need for connection and the loyalty within him awakened. That intrinsic devotion to his loved ones has now only intensified the bond he formed with his Pack members. Without hesitation, Khalid would sacrifice himself for the survival of his Pack.
But despite his honor, Khalid continues to battle his inner demons. Khalid was raised to be a man of integrity but the dark temptations around him thwart his pursuit of morality. He struggles to maintain his virtue in a Werewolvian society where the desire to indulge in lust and sadism provokes him. Although Khalid has the tendency to partake in debauchery and violence, he continues to pursue moral decency. He yearns to lead by example in the hopes that his Pack members might find their salvation through his guidance.
Khalid maintains the dignified and nonchalant demeanor to hide the fact he harbors a guilty conscience.
He truly believes that his sorrow and insecurities would be the downfall of his Pack. Khalid often says that fear is a poisonous weakness. If he allowed his fears to invade the impressionable minds of his Pack members, it would slowly cause the Feral Pack to decay. Thus, he keeps his suffering a secret and carries the heavy burdens alone.
Khalid's life has been a complicated tale of woe. However, not even his loved ones know the traumatic events that he experienced. Although the agony torments him, Khalid continues to suppress his emotions and reigns as Alpha with the facade of much aplomb.
With great leadership skills, Khalid is the epitome of a powerful Alpha. He's incredibly formidable and isn't afraid to assert his dominance when need be. Khalid ensures that his authority is never questioned and demands respect from others due to his strong preference for a traditional hierarchy. He often practices the habits and rituals from their history to establish a disciplined Pack.
Khalid is very seldom lenient with his Pack members. He enforces his Pack to abolish the notorious stigma that Feral Pack members are corrupt and nefarious. Khalid might not be perfect, but he strives to prove that he is worthy of respect. He knows the Feral Pack has obtained an infamous reputation and persistently attempts to redeem themselves from their depravity.
Typically, Khalid maintains control of his Pack and the people around him through intimidation tactics. However, that doesn't mean that he lacks compassion. His position as Alpha is dynamic, for he can often be rather magnanimous. Khalid is considerate of others and very attentive to his Pack members. But despite his best efforts, being the Alpha is difficult because it's common knowledge that The Feral Pack is impoverished. Khalid finds ways to cope and endures the hardship of sustaining a destitute Pack. But not only does he persevere... he improvises. Khalid is incredibly methodical and resourceful; he will execute whatever is necessary for survival. Nothing is more important than his Pack - not even himself.
The Feral Pack represents the very essence of Khalid Khan and his ethics reflect from one simple phrase: "The Pack always prevails."

Backstory
1600's
Khalid was born into a line of royalty during 1606. When his family resided within a small kingdom in Syria, he was raised as the Imperial Prince. For many centuries, his extravagant lifestyle included various luxuries: a magnificent castle, wealth beyond measure, servants that catered to his every whim, lavish parties to celebrate with family and anything else his heart desires. However, although being from a royal lineage had many benefits, there were several disadvantages.
During his childhood, Khalid was very disciplined because of his strict upbringing. Syrian children are raised to obey their parents and respect their elders. His mistakes were often strictly reprimanded by his parents to correct his behavior, for disobedience was known as very dishonorable. However, because Khalid was a Prince, he had numerous duties to attend; which also caused him to remain focused and dedicated. Hence why Khalid became remarkably diligent as an adult.
Khalid was expected to be cultured, intelligent and talented. When he was taught how to read at an early age, he learned rather quickly. Therefore, his parents - Malik Naaji and Karima Naaji - thought he was truly gifted. He was the golden child. Khalid was known for being rather studious and educated.
More than anything, Khalid was a musical child and wanted to learn to play instruments. However, it was his parent's Muslim belief that instruments were haram and considered forbidden. Khalid didn't understand this as a child, but still never questioned his parents. Instead, he would dream of flutes and percussion. Khalid yearned for a life of beautiful sound and hoped that one day he would have the honor to play an instrument.
Despite his rather odd interest with music, Malik and Karima were incredibly proud of his academic achievements and the skills that he acquired through various tutors. Khalid very seldom had time to play with his friends or partake in the activities that a child wishes for because of his strict and demanding schedule. However, Khalid never complained about his responsibilities and lack of leisure.
Khalid was a quiet young boy and never spoke unless he was spoken to. Oftentimes, he was rather shy and refused to socialize with people outside of his family.
His mother worried about his antisocial habits and thought he wasn't leading a normal childhood. However, his father would assure her that he should remain focused with his studies. They would often argue about how to parent Khalid. More importantly, Karima wanted him to be artistic and cultured, whereas Malik waned him to be disciplined and honorable. However, in the Syrian culture, the family dynamic is patriarchal; the father or oldest male has the most authority in the household. Therefore, Khalid often obeyed the word of his father and never refused his demands.
Before he became who he is today, one could say that Khalid was a timid child. However, although Khalid was soft-spoken, being quiet allowed him to listen. This ability taught him to be perceptive. Nowadays, this characteristic has become quite helpful and a significant aspect of his personality.
When Khalid grew older, his shyness transformed into sternness. He remained an introverted man, however, he instead developed nonchalance as a quite significant mannerism. Although he is courteous, he always remains fairly aloof. With the tenacious tendency to have a taciturn approach to others, Khalid continues to be quite the enigmatic creature.
As a handsome young man who was blessed with charm and surrounded in mystery, he had many potential young women who found interest in him. However, he remained distant and with his nose in a book as always. Romance was never a priority to Khalid during his teenage years, despite the word of his father who urged him to find a wife. Although he yearned for a family of his own one day, he was lost as to with whom. Instead, he concentrated on his education, obligations, and family.
When his younger siblings Dalia Naaji and Zakai Naaji were born, it was as if Khalid finally knew what happiness felt like... He had never found so much purpose in his life then the moment he laid eyes on them. Whenever it concerned being the provider and protector of his brother and sister, it was confirmed that loyalty, integrity, and family were the most important elements of life.
Moreover, Syria is a society whereby strong loyalty is given to familial, ethnic and social groups. They often know their community intimately and visit their friends and family every day. The lifestyle gives individuals a sense of belonging and support.
As a teenager, Khalid found friendship within one person - Omari Toma. It was a beautiful, sunny day when Khalid's father decided that he earned the privilege to have one simple day of leisure. All Khalid wanted to do was visit the river down by the local fish market.
Omari was a fisherman's boy and met Khalid that very day down by the wharf. Khalid saw him fishing all by his lonesome and related to his desire to be alone. However, he wondered if perhaps it would be nice to be alone together.
The two boys instantly found a connection when they realized they shared an interest in music. It was then that Omari told Khalid his biggest secret: he played instruments - specifically the drum and tambourine. Together, they would sneak out during the evening to play instruments by the wharf. It was their humble escape from reality.
When Khalid was with Omari, he forgot that he was a Prince; life wasn't about royal duties and studies - it was about happiness - and that was the simple truth: when Khalid was with Omari, he was genuinely happy.
Khalid had never bonded with another person the way he did with Omari. They did everything together and eventually became inseparable. This was Khalid's first memory of a friend - a true friend. Omari not only taught Khalid how to play instruments, but he taught him how to trust.
Before Omari, Khalid never uttered a word, he never shared his emotions and secrets with others, he never knew what it meant to truly allow himself to be happy. Perhaps he was afraid - afraid of being close to someone - for all he ever knew was the relentless fear that he wasn't good enough, smart enough, strong enough. However, all those fears vanished the moment he met Omari Toma.
When Khalid turned 16, his father urged him to find a wife - specifically, a beautiful woman who descended from wealth or royalty. Syrian society is quite hierarchical and people tend to adhere to the stratifications between social statuses. A person’s wealth, education and profession are the biggest class indicators.
Although Khalid didn't find the significance in his father's wishes, he never spoke against him. For one’s age also determines the grading of respect in social interactions. It is expected that in social situations elders are highly regarded and given precedence over others who are present. Therefore, the situation was impossible to escape.
Khalid was terribly ambivalent, for he wasn't interested in being married anytime soon - or at all for that matter. He was young, naive and quite frankly, wasn't prepared for the responsibility of possibly becoming Sultan one day. The mere thought riddled him with anxiety.
However, much to his dismay, Khalid's father introduced him to Thana Saliba - the beautiful daughter of a renowned scholar. Her family was of high social class and incredibly wealthy. Thana was learning to become a doctor, to uphold the family name. However, Khalid wasn't interested in her wealth or famous reputation.
The two were shy during the beginning. Only meeting eyes at nervous glances, cold silences between words, they were rather distant. However, it wasn't until Khalid noticed that Thana was far more than a wealthy figure did he finally realize her true potential. For not only did Thana possess beauty, but she also had brains as well.
Thana was remarkably intelligent and bonded with Khalid over their love for books. Together they would spend their day in the palace library, reading literature and exchanging smiles. Eventually, Khalid found himself falling deeply in love with her. It was fast, curious and for the very first time.
When Thana met Omari, it was quite a beautiful moment... For once, Khalid was surrounded by the people he loved and who loved him. The three of them were united through anything and trusted each other with their lives. It was the quintessence of friendship that very few people ever came to know.
Days before the wedding, Khalid hosted a party at the palace. It was a decadent evening. It was almost as if his entire life had been leading up to this very moment - where everything came falling into place. However, that evening it seemed as if everything came falling apart.
Khalid hadn't noticed how many goblets of wine that Omari had offered him, or how often he would catch Omari chatting with Thana on the dance floor... However, Khalid was far too intoxicated to confront the situation. It wasn't until later that night when Khalid caught them in bed together that he realized even those you trust the most are capable of betrayal. Perhaps their loyalty lied elsewhere...
Syrians always endeavor to help their friends. In return for their efforts, they trust that the person will reciprocate the favor in the future when they request it. Therefore, betrayal and disloyalty are considered unforgivable to Khalid - and that's precisely what it was... unforgivable.
Malik and Karima instantly canceled the wedding and Khalid was left heartbroken for many years.
